ATD San Diego Leadership Opportunities

ATD San Diego has several board positions open for members looking for opportunities to use and enhance their leadership experience and skills. Board members build not only a strong network of colleagues, but a circle of lasting friendships. Opportunities to showcase your talents are nearly unlimited on the board. Whether your gifts are technical, organizational, or creative, serving on the board provides a great opportunity to demonstrate and develop your leadership skills for the betterment of our Chapter and your professional career. Don’t underestimate the power of a “Board Member” title on your resume.

Requirements:

All board positions are one year terms, except for President-Elect, which is a three year commitment (President-elect, President, and Past President). To be eligible, members in good standing must have served a minimum of six months in a volunteer capacity in this chapter or have relevant work/volunteer experience. Applicants must be current ATD members and commit to becoming an ATD National Member upon selection. Board members must attend at least eight chapter events annually and at least nine board meetings annually.

Upcoming Board Vacancies:

PRESIDENT-ELECT

Role Overview:

As the President-Elect, you will use strong communication and leadership skills to assist the chapter president in performance of chapter management duties, automatically succeeding to president. You will participate in the recruitment of board members to lead the chapter in the succeeding year, and lead special projects that further the mission of the chapter. You will be responsible for cultivating an environment of innovation, collaboration, and meaningful outcomes for the board and members of the chapter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Duties: Oversee the yearly CARE reporting requirements and function as the main point of contact for ATD on all CARE-related communications. Prepare the CARE submission for the current year and submit it to NAC. Works closely with the Office Manager and Director of Finance to ensure the sound financial status of the chapter by monitoring monthly budget reports and encourages the best use of chapter resources.
  • Supports the President: Assumes the duties of president when they are absent from board meetings or chapter meetings, assists the president with chapter organization and management, and clarifies board/committee responsibilities. Participates in the development and implementation of strategic planning to establish a clear direction for the chapter.
  • Team Leadership: Establishes and fosters productive relationships with ATD affiliates, chapter members, sponsors, and companies. Leads succession planning to include recruiting new board members and managing the chapter's succession process.

SECRETARY

Role Overview:

As the chapter’s Secretary, you will use strong organizational and communication skills to provide administrative support for the chapter, ensure the accurate retention and communication of chapter proceedings and records and distribute them to the members through the website.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support: Ensure that accurate minutes are taken and maintained as legal records of the chapter board meetings and made accessible to members through the chapter website. Collaborate with the President to create agendas for board meetings and strategic planning meetings.
  • Onboarding: Assist in recruiting and training the incoming board members, ensure all relevant documents for training the new board member, and for record-keeping purposes, are posted on the board member workspace for future use. Collaborate with the Director of Technology to ensure all new board members have access to the board of director accounts.
  • Project Management: Support board members on various projects and track various projects to ensure they are completed on time in order to enhance membership engagement. Collaborate with the Office Manager to ensure the business operation documents are up-to-date (insurance, taxes, continuing education credits etc.). Oversee and coordinate any requirements involving the Corporation Bylaws and/or Articles of Incorporation.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Role Overview:

As the Director of Finance you will use strong communication, business ethics, honesty, and integrity to ensure the chapter is financially sound. Your role is to make competent financial recommendations, as well as maintain and promote continuity of the Chapter’s financial records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight: Set annual financial goals, prepare the chapter budget, interpret and explain financial statements, review chapter contracts, accounts, and investments while providing suggestions on changes when necessary.
  • Administrative Duties: Establish and maintain accurate records of income and disbursements, maintain tax-exempt and non-profit status, prepare tax documents, prepare and present monthly financial statements at board meetings, distribute monthly analysis and year-to-date totals for each board position.
  • Collaborate with others: Work closely with the Office Manager and other board members to plan the budget, ensure bills are paid, discuss budgetary needs all within a timely manner.

DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY

Role Overview:

As the Director of Technology, you will be responsible for identifying, implementing, and maintaining the chapter’s website content, features, and other technologies that will support the chapter goals. Using current technology trends, you will support the chapter with innovative and creative ideas to engage and drive chapter membership and the overall membership experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Operations: Refresh and maintain the chapter’s website, use the chapter’s zoom account to create webinars, meetings, and various virtual events. Oversee the Google accounts and ensure the successful transfer of accounts for incoming board members.
  • Implement Innovation: Research, develop, and facilitate the sourcing of new ideas and concepts for using technological innovation to deliver enhanced services to members and create a vibrant member experience that drives engagement.
  • Collaborate with others: Partner with other board members to promote chapter programs, engagement opportunities, and highlight the value of the chapter.

DIRECTOR OF DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

Role Overview:

As the Director of Digital Experience, you will be the driving force behind our chapter’s online presence and member engagement. You'll take charge of all aspects of our digital experience, from marketing and social media to content creation, website design, and event promotion. Your mission is to create a cohesive, compelling digital journey that aligns with our chapter’s vision and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digital Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive digital marketing strategies to enhance brand visibility, member engagement, and conversion rates.
  • Web Mastery: Lead the design, maintenance, and optimization of our website to provide a seamless, user-friendly experience while aligning with business goals.
  • Content Excellence: Drive the creation of captivating, shareable content across digital platforms to support the member journey and increase chapter resonance.

DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT AND GROWTH

Role Overview:

As the Director of Membership Engagement and Growth, you will be at the forefront of our chapter’s efforts to build a vibrant and thriving community of members. Your role is pivotal in cultivating strong relationships, enhancing member experiences, and driving growth through engagement initiatives. You will work collaboratively to retain existing members while strategically expanding our membership base.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Member Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to actively engage and connect with our current members, ensuring they feel valued, involved, and part of a dynamic community.
  • Retention Strategies: Design and execute programs and initiatives to increase member retention rates, reduce churn, and promote long-term commitment.
  • Growth Initiatives: Identify and pursue opportunities to expand our membership base, targeting new audiences and demographics.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Utilize data and analytics to assess membership trends, track engagement metrics, and make informed decisions to guide growth strategies.

DIRECTOR OF VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE AND ENGAGEMENT

 Role Overview:
As the Director of Volunteer Experience, you will be the driving force behind building and maintaining a dynamic team of volunteers who play a crucial role in advancing the mission of our chapter. Your responsibilities will extend to recruiting, training, and managing volunteers with varying duties under different directors. Your ultimate goal is to ensure that our volunteers have a meaningful and rewarding experience while contributing to our chapter's success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruitment and Onboarding: Develop and implement strategies for recruiting volunteers across different board functions and roles, aligning their skills and interests with the chapter's needs.
  • Volunteer Training: Coordinate with department directors to provide comprehensive training to volunteers, ensuring they are well-prepared to fulfill their roles effectively.
  • Engagement and Retention: Foster a culture of appreciation and recognition, implementing programs to keep volunteers engaged, motivated, and committed to the mission and values of the chapter.
  • Performance Tracking: Collaborate with other Directors to track volunteer performance and contributions, utilizing data and feedback to continuously enhance the volunteer experience.

DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS

 
Role Overview:

As the Director of Programs, you will be at the forefront of our chapter’s efforts to design and deliver impactful programs, events, and workshops that advance our mission and engage our community. Your role is instrumental in shaping the strategic direction, planning, and full execution of all chapter programs. You will be responsible for creating an environment where innovation, collaboration, and meaningful outcomes flourish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development: Lead the strategic planning, design, and development of all chapter programs, ensuring they align with our mission, values, and the evolving needs of our community.
  • Full Execution: Oversee the comprehensive execution of programs, events, and workshops, from concept to completion, ensuring high-quality delivery and participant satisfaction.
  • Team Leadership: Work with fellow Director of Programs to manage a diverse team of volunteers fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
  • Performance Evaluation: Continuously assess program effectiveness through data analysis and feedback, making data-driven decisions to enhance program quality and impact.

2024 Nomination and Voting Process:

The nominating committee, which consists of current board members, will review applications, interview candidates, and present a slate of Directors to the membership for a vote. Here is the timeline for the nomination and voting period:

  • August 26th, 2024: Board Applications Open

  • September 7th, 2024: Board Applications Close
  • September 9th - 15th, 2024: Candidate Interviews
  • October 1st - 19th, 2024: Voting Period for Chapter Members
  • Week of November 11th: 2024 Board of Directors Announced
  • November 19th: Transition Board meeting
