In her fourth year as a volunteer on the ATD San Diego Board of Directors, Bridget is honored to lead the chapter as President in 2021.
Bridget leans into the ATD capability model, by focusing her leadership on collaboration, encouraging teamwork, and respectful relationships amongst the Board Directors and volunteers. Outside of ATD, she promotes Talent Development best practices as a Learning Consultant at Skillsoft, where she partners with her clients to identify root causes and ensure learning solutions make a measurable impact on their businesses. Bridget’s experience includes building innovative learning solutions from the ground up including designing, facilitating, and managing learning programs throughout the entire learning lifecycle.
Since COVID she has partnered with Your Flock.uk, a digital coaching platform built to help remote teams discover and strengthen their core values. Most nights you can find her walking along the north county coast enjoying a stunning sunset.
Gwen Franco is a Learning & Development Manager for Hyatt Hotels supporting 6 hotels in the San Diego and Park City region. She focuses on designing and facilitating leadership development trainings, offers performance coaching and created a podcast with over 30 episodes posted and 2000 downloads. Her performance coaching business is forthcoming where she will work with people to illuminate and invigorate their self-development.
Gwen is a native Southern Californian and has lived in San Diego for 4 years. She studied Philosophy at the University of La Verne and is currently working towards her CPTD certification. Gwen describes herself as follows: I am inquisitive so I love to ask why and I love tacos!
Mary Jane is the Past President of ATD San Diego. As Past President, she continues to work with the President to help ensure a smooth transition, answer questions, and provide ideas and recommendations.
Outside of ATD, MJ helps organizations improve performance and reduce turnover through learning and development strategies. She has a successful track record of aligning business needs with learning and development initiatives that deliver value added results. She currently works for ICW Group, a Workers’ Compensation insurance carrier, as a Learning Specialist supporting their risk management function. Prior to ICW, she worked 10 years for Kleinfelder, an engineering and science professional consulting firm and for Bose Corporation in various T&D roles supporting manufacturing operations.
She is certified to teach and administer several professional development programs and tools, including DISC, MBTI, and EQ-I. She also teaches Training and Development at UCSD Extension where she introduces students to the ATD Competency Model and the resources available through ATD.
Melissa serves in her role as ATD San Diego Membership Director to create opportunities for people to grow professionally through networking, participating in our programs, and volunteering.
Melissa is a passionate leader focused on bringing people together to implement strategies for organizations and individuals to realize their potential. As Director of Workforce Development at Goodwill Industry of San Diego County, she oversees the Career Pathway Program for employees and a Paid Training Program for job seekers with barriers to employment.Melissa has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UC Santa Barbara in History, a Certification in Nonprofit Management from Brandman University, and a Master of Science on Organizational Performance from Bellevue University. She is DISC certified facilitator and trainer. Melissa enjoys time with her husband, family, and friends, traveling, camping, hiking, and making gourmet meals.
Co-Programs Director - David Berke
David's role on the ATD Board as co-program director is to bring programs to the members that will enhance their knowledge and skills in areas related to Learning & Development. During his career, he worked as an individual contributor, manager, and external consultant focused primarily on management and executive development and organization development.
As a consultant, he has worked with managers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia and with companies including Google, Hewlett Packard, American Honda and a number of smaller companies including some bio-techs. His primary internal experience is in the public sector and in industries including healthcare and aerospace. He was a senior faculty member at the Center for Creative Leadership for 12 years.
He has written a book on succession planning, and another focused on how managers can support the development of their employees. He has also co-authored a book on leadership development.
Sylvia Melena serves as Co-Director of Programs for ATD San Diego. She is the Founder and CEO of Melena Consulting Group, a leadership and management consulting and training company, and the international award-winning leadership author of Supportive Accountability: How to Inspire People and Improve Performance.
Sylvia is also an ATD Master Instructional Designer™, speaker, trainer, and consultant specializing in employee and organizational performance management. With a Master of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Studies and nearly 20 years in the trenches of health and human services management, Sylvia has led individuals, small teams, and entire workforces into notable performance improvement. She has also coached, developed, and trained hundreds of seasoned and emerging managers and supervisors to do the same. Her leadership philosophy has impacted thousands of leaders worldwide and has been featured by the Society of Human Resources Management, the Human Performance Association, LEADx, Entrepreneur, My Quest for the Best, and other outlets.
Sylvia serves as Vice President of the San Diego Book Awards Association. She is an active member of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee for San Diego County’s South, Central, and East Economic Development Councils. She loves to read, write, and spend time with her family.
Norma Hernandez is currently CFO with ATD San Diego’s Chapter. Her role overseeing the Chapter’s budget and finances began in January 2020. Prior to that she volunteered for two years as Chapter Secretary.
Norma has 30 years’ experience in the human services industry specializing in nonprofit administration and operations, human resource management and organizational development. Norma is a Certified EQ Practitioner (CEQP) and Certified EQ Brain Profiler through Six Seconds, the largest global organization supporting the growth of emotional intelligence (EQ). Norma holds an MBA from Kaplan University, Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and an Organization Development & Change Leadership Certification from Drucker School of Management.
As the Director of Marketing, Melanie is responsible for all marketing efforts to members, perspective members, sponsors and the San Diego talent development community. She manages ATD San Diego’s social media platforms to engage with talent development professionals and increase the chapter’s online presence.
Melanie is currently a Training Developer at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. In this role, she develops innovative learning solutions by making learning both informative and engaging. A big believer in design, Melanie enjoys combining graphic design and instructional design to create meaningful learning experiences. Previously, Melanie has supported company-wide initiatives through microlearnings, instructor-led trainings, and uses storytelling to deliver impactful eLearning courses. Melanie holds a Bachelor of Science in Management with specialization in Human Resources Management from San Diego State University.
Karen Radzinski brings over 20 years of education, training, and leadership to her Secretary role with ATD San Diego. As a former educator and sales manager, Karen takes a tactical and comprehensive approach to managing people, encouraging and leading teams and enhancing the workplace culture and environment. She is currently the HR Manager at a dental supply company where her goal is to enhance workplace culture and the environment.
Karen holds an Undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville, and a graduate's degree from the University of San Diego, School of Business. She has an HR Management certificate and is certified through the Society of Human Resources. She has been on the Board of Directors for the Optimist Club of Carlsbad and continues to participate in their mission of helping local kids in the community. Within this past year, she has developed a love of paddleboarding and pickleball.
Tom serves as Technology Director with ATD San Diego and is responsible for updating the website with new events, collaborating with programs and marketing to produce content, and being a liaison for all things technology related for ATD San Diego.
Tom is a Adjunct Instructor with the Resilience Building Leader Program, coaching clients on how to build a culture of resilient teams in the workplace. Tom also has had a 20 year legal career working in the criminal courts and civil litigation. In his off-time, Tom enjoys hanging with his wife and being a multi-potentialite by creating his own gaming content for his YouTube channel, reading new and interesting books, and going to his Crossfit gym.
